Courses and Trainings Available Upon RequestAnatomy and BiomechanicsDesigned for teachers and practitioners who wish to increase their understanding of the structure of the body and the material of which it is made. In this class we will focus on movement habits and explore these tendencies in daily activities and specific movement environments. The application of proper biomechanics will be emphasized as a means for relieving physical discomfort and pain. Physiology of MovementMovement has its own unique effect on the physiology of the human system. In this class we will focus on the physiology of the organs and the digestive, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic, endocrine and nervous systems. Physiology of the BreathThe mechanisms involved with breathing are both simple and complex. In this class we will focus on the diaphragm for its important role in breathing as well as on the lungs, heart , brain and circulatory system. The effects of respiration on other systems throughout the body will also be explored. Lower Back BasicsMovement, breathing and focused awareness will be directed toward the lower back and hips . Means for transforming daily movement habits for optimum health will be explored. Students will learn an exercise sequence that can be used at home for long-term benefit of the lower back. Anatomy and Physiology of the Lower BackAn overview of the anatomy and physiology of the lower back will be offered to allow for a deeper insight into lower back health. Learn the proper alignment and movement of the lower back to alleviate low back pain as well as hip discomfort and digestive imbalances. Understand the lower back and learn to help others incorporate these movements into everyday life. (Can be structured as a sequel to "Lower Back Basics" and target advanced students.) Head, Neck and Shoulders FundamentalsMovement, breathing and focused awareness will be used to address stress management, neck dynamics and repetitive motion syndrome. Means for transforming daily movement habits for optimum health will be explored. Students will learn an exercise sequence that can be used at home for long-term benefit of the head, neck and shoulders. Anatomy and Physiology of the Head, Neck and ShouldersAn overview of the anatomy and physiology of the head, neck and shoulders will be offered to allow for a deeper insight into health and comfort in these areas. Learn the proper alignment and movement to alleviate pain and promote relaxation. Understand the head, neck and shoulders and learn how to help others incorporate these movements into everyday life. (Can be structured as a sequel to "Fundamentals of Head, Neck and Shoulders" and target advanced students.) Flexibility TrainingFlexibility training is an untapped source of increased athletic performance, longevity and durability. In this class movement, breathing and focused awareness will be used for the purpose of complementing a physically active lifestyle. Students will learn a sequence that can be used at home for long-term benefit. Stretching for AthletesClass for athletes focusing on increasing flexibility, strength and athletic longevity. Ergonomics in the Work EnvironmentThis course is designed to help participants increase longevity and comfort in any work situation. It is structured to fit within a specific work environment (i.e. a dentist office, computer lab or auto mechanic shop). Participants will learn to enhance their own health and well-being through the adjustment of habitual movement patterns. Therapeutic Sports MassageTechniques offered include basic stroke work, injury assessment, prevention and rehabilitation. Focus is on massage techniques and biomechanics that are favorable to the practitioner's body. Therapeutic MassageInstruction will be given on techniques that are effective for TMJ dysfunction, shoulder, hip and low back pain, and abdominal and diaphragm release. The recognition of primary muscular involvement associated with chronic and acute injury is emphasized. Focus is on massage techniques and biomechanics that are favorable to the practitioner's body. Assessment and Adaptation Workshop for Yoga TeachersThis class will enhance each teacher's ability to make skillful assessment and offer appropriate adaptation of asana for students in group classes and private sessions. Participants will learn to assess balance and imbalance in the physical and energetic systems, keep track of therapy cases and use this information to create long-term transformation. Teaching BeginnersWhen teaching movement to beginners it is important to quickly assess strengths and weaknesses in order to allow a person to begin at his/her true starting point. This course will offer instructors training in assessment and communication skills specific to working with beginning students. Working with PrivatesThis course is for personal trainers, pilates instructors and yoga teachers who want to begin working with students privately or for those wishing to enhance an existing practice. Participants will hone their assessment skills, gain competence in prioritizing the needs of the student and learn how to use basic principles as they apply to each individual. Breath and MindThis intensive will explore the intimate relationship between breath and mind. Students will gain a deeper understanding of how the breath affects the mind, and in turn, the physical, psychological and emotional systems. Discussion of these concepts will be grounded in anatomy and physiology, emphasizing the subtle and profound influence of respiration on the nervous and endocrine systems. Asana and The Dynamics of BreathingBreathing has a direct influence on spinal alignment and is a fundamental component of yoga. Students will be guided into awareness of breathing mechanics. Such awareness will allow for deeper insight into practice, its strengths and stresses. An engaging practice will be created by combining asanas with specific breathing techniques. Asana, Pranayama and CirculationThis intensive will explore the physiological and anatomical effects that asana and pranayama have on the movement of fluid in the muscles, joints and digestive organs. This understanding of circulation is a valuable adjunct in all therapeutic environments. Practice, lecture and group discussion are all a part of this in depth exploration. Asana, Pranayama and the MindThe system of yoga has long recognized the powerful influence of movement and breath on the mind. In this intensive we will explore the subtle and profound effects of asana and pranayama on the mind. Students will gain an understanding of the workings of the mind and its intimate relationships with the respiratory, endocrine (hormonal) and nervous systems. Practice, lecture and group discussion are all a part of this in depth study.
